2024 Happy New Year!

I do two things to celebrate the new year.

1. I pick out a word that I want to set the intention of the year going forward.

This year it's "fire."

I want to be more motivated and have more drive to do things outside of work. Mainly writing. I want to light a fire under my ass and finish projects; actually MAKE things. Complete things. Things that come from the heart, not planned and re-planned and re-planned in my head.

(St. Louis Blue) was asked, in the documentary "Ice Guardians" if he had to do it (meaning being a badass hockey enforcer*) all over again, would he? He got this misty eyed look and answered yes with "a little more fire."

I want to kick more ass this year.

2. The other is a birding tradition. For bird watchers, the first bird seen in the new year sets the tone for the year. I saw a cormorant. My mom saw a dove.

Tanya Casteel says "Once a Cormorant commits to something they are usually able to achieve it because of their resourceful behavior and willingness to embrace the unknown."

I think that the embracing the unknown has more to do with lunch than anything profound. If you have a pet (specifically a very demanding cat) you know how important lunch is.

One of my co-workers said if you walk into your house with money in your pocket you're guaranteed to have money all year. I scrounged around in my car and came up with six cents for when I got home. It's something, right?

Do you guys do anything special for the new year? Comment and let me know.
